Notes
Notes
Notes is where you write: class notes, readings, plans, and to-dos. It works on a computer (on a phone the tab is hidden for now, because writing and formatting a document needs the room).
Folders, and every class is one
Your classes appear as folders automatically, in their course colour, and you can make your own folders too. Folders can go inside other folders, a class folder can be dragged into one of your own, and anything can be pinned to the top. Right-click a folder or a note for its options: rename, change the icon and colour, pin, share, move, or delete.
Start a note during a class on your schedule and it files itself into that class, named after the week ("Week 5 FINA 210"). Started inside a class folder, it goes there with the current week. You can remove the link if it guessed wrong.
Tasks
A task is a note with a due date: “update my personal site”, “renew my bus pass”. Make one from New note → Task, from the Tasks folder, or turn any note into one with ⋯ → Make this a task. It shows on Today and in your calendar like any other task, and opening it opens the document, so the details live with the reminder.
Tasks from Notes can be hidden from Today without deleting them: Today → Customize → Show tasks from Notes.
Writing
- Ten fonts, sizes you can type in (6 to 96), bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text colour and highlight, each with a full colour picker and hex codes.
- Line spacing: for the highlighted text, or for the whole note when nothing is highlighted.
- Headings, bulleted, numbered and checklist lists, quotes, code, and dividers. Markdown shortcuts work too: # for a heading, - for a list, [ ] for a checklist.
- Emoji, from the smiley in the toolbar.
- Images: insert, paste or drop them in, then drag a corner to resize, crop them, and switch rounded corners on or off.
- Files and voice notes: attach a PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel file, or record a voice note of up to ten minutes.
- Drawings: pen, highlighter, eraser, lines and shapes. With a stylus, your palm is ignored.
- @ for a person or a date (see Sharing and working together).
Hover any button in the toolbar to see what it does and its keyboard shortcut. Everything saves as you type; the top bar says Saved.
Text copied from a dark website or app no longer pastes in white: grey and white text colours and dark backgrounds are dropped on paste, so the text takes the page’s colour. Real colours like red or blue are kept.
